Key Features of Learning-oriented Talk

Young children’s ability to use learning-oriented talk allows them to extend their knowledge through interactions with educators and peers, and lays the foundations for future academic success. From our findings, we developed information sheets for educators and a practical ‘Observation tool and practice plan’ to help educators to observe, interpret and plan for young children’s use of learning-oriented talk in their classrooms.

Observation and Planning Tool

Use this observation and planning tool to document a conversation in which a child or a group of children use learning-oriented talk. Note what knowledge may the children create by using learning-oriented talk. Decide on the teaching strategies that you can implement  to encourage children to use learning-oriented talk. Link the learning that is taking place to the EYLF Learning Outcomes.

Webinars

We will provide links to the webinars as soon as they become available.
